Welcome to Myo Roots Therapy

Services

At Myo Roots Therapy, we offer a comprehensive range of myofunctional therapy services tailored to improve the function and coordination of the muscles of the face, tongue, mouth, and airway. Our goal is to address the ROOT cause of dysfunction and promote long-term health through evidence-based exercises and habits.

We work with children, teens, and adults to treat a variety of conditions linked to oral function, breathing patterns, and facial development.

Oral Health Effects

Mouth breathing dries out saliva, and saliva is essential for:

  • Protecting teeth from decay

  • Neutralizing acids

  • Remineralizing enamel

  • Maintaining healthy gums

Without adequate saliva, cavity risk and gum disease risk increase significantly.

In Adults

  • Neck, jaw, and facial tension

  • TMJ discomfort

  • Difficulty maintaining good oral posture

  • Sleep quality concerns

  • Challenges with certain speech sounds

  • Difficulty licking lips, cleaning food from teeth, or kissing comfortably

  • Chronic compensations that may contribute to headaches or muscle tension

Common Causes

  • Enlarged tonsils or adenoids

  • Chronic nasal congestion

  • Allergies

  • Deviated septum

  • Tongue-tie

  • Poor oral rest posture habits

  • Sleep-disordered breathing

As a myofunctional therapist, you’ll often see that correcting the underlying cause and retraining proper tongue posture, lip seal, and nasal breathing can improve sleep, oral health, facial development, and overall quality of life.

Oral & Facial Effects

When the tongue cannot rest fully against the palate:

  • The upper jaw may develop narrower than ideal

  • Teeth crowding may occur

  • The palate may become high and narrow

  • Nasal breathing can be affected

  • Facial growth patterns may be altered during childhood

About

My name is Michele Williams, and I have been dedicated to helping patients improve their oral health since becoming a registered dental hygienist in 2008. Prior to entering the dental field, I spent six years working with children in daycare settings, where I developed a passion for supporting growth, development, and communication skills.

After more than 16 years in dental hygiene, I discovered myofunctional therapy through my personal journey as a mother. My special needs son had participated in speech therapy for over 12 years, yet continued to struggle with oral and facial muscle tone. Determined to find answers, I began researching alternative approaches and was introduced to myofunctional therapy.

I completed my training and became a Certified Myofunctional Therapist through MyoMentor. The training opened my eyes to the critical connection between oral function, facial development, breathing, sleep, speech, and overall health. I quickly realized that myofunctional therapy addresses much more than symptoms—it helps identify and treat underlying functional patterns that can impact a person's quality of life.

Today, I combine my extensive dental hygiene experience with my myofunctional therapy training to help both children and adults develop healthier oral habits and improve function. My goal is to educate, empower, and support my patients on their journey toward better health and wellness through individualized care and evidence-based therapy.

When I'm not working with patients, I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the beach, working out, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I am passionate about helping others achieve optimal oral health and function so they can live healthier, more confident lives.
